Abstract

La labor científica del profesor Alberto Hurtado empieza en 1925, siendo residente en el Hospital Boston City donde trabaja al lado de Francis Peabody, demostrando sincera devoción por la investigación clínica que determina el aprecio de sus colegas y maestros, quienes le invitan a quedarse con ellos en la famosa Universidad de Harvard. Concluida su formación médica retorna al Perú e inicia la investigación de los problemas locales; su tesis doctoral en la Universidad de San Marcos trata sobre el metabolismo basal del indígena peruano, trabajo que lo extiende después estudiando el efecto del ambiente hipóxico sobre el mismo.
