Abstract

Daniel Vergara Lope (1865-1938), médico mexicano, fue un pionero de los estudios de la fisiología del habitante de las grandes alturas en la última década del siglo XIX. Y, Thomas Holmes Ravenhill (1881-1952), médico inglés, fue el primero en describir las variantes clínicas del mal de montaña agudo (“puna” o “soroche”) en 1913. Sin embargo, ambas contribuciones pasaron desapercibidas, aparentemente, para los investigadores del siglo XX pero que han sido rescatadas recientemente.
