Speech-language pathologist intervention of communication in the relief of suffering in palliative care: an integrative review

Objective: To analyze the state of scientific knowledge in relation to the Speechlanguage pathologist intervention of communication in the relief of suffering of the terminally ill patient in palliative care. Materials and methods: The research was conducted under the methodology of an integrative review of the literature, descriptive and retrospective in scope, focused on the parameters established by Whittemore. Results: Phonoaudiological intervention strategies were proposed for adults and pediatric patients, which were focused on interpersonal communication, being intervened from the categories of communication to adjust to change, meeting needs, simplifying, giving and receiving gratitude, regret and end-of-life support. The multidisciplinary work was cross-sectional to alleviate the suffering of the terminally ill patient in palliative care. Conclusions: The difficulty of integrating interventions in languages other than English, Spanish, French and Portuguese was a limitation; however, the objective was achieved.
